Traffic accidents claim 26 lives every day.
205 traffic accidents, killing 183 people and injuring 126 people are the statistics of the Department of Road and Railway Traffic Police in the second week of the new year 2012. On average, every day there are 29 traffic accidents nationwide, taking the lives of 26 people and sending 18 people to the hospital.
Of these, there were 3 particularly serious road traffic accidents in Lam Dong, Quang Ninh, and Ha Tinh, killing 10 people. There were 9 railway traffic accidents, killing 3 people and injuring 5 others. Long traffic jams also occurred in 2 cases in Dong Nai and Binh Phuoc.

Carrying out patrols, control and handling of violations, the national traffic police force handled over 90,700 cases of violations of road traffic safety and order, temporarily detaining over 300 cars and 9,200 motorbikes.
The Department increased its forces, vehicles, and support tools to coordinate with the Traffic Police Departments of localities on National Highway 1 (Lang Son, Ninh Binh, Quang Tri, Quang Ngai, Dong Nai) to organize patrols, control, and handle violations to ensure traffic order and safety during the Lunar New Year of Nham Thin, thereby recording over 3,500 cases and temporarily detaining 84 vehicles.
On the Phap Van-Ninh Binh route and the Ho Chi Minh City-Trung Luong expressway, over 200 violations were handled. The Department's forces coordinated with the Hanoi Traffic Police Department to control, handle, and issue tickets for over 80 cases of cars violating regulations on stopping and parking.
Through patrols and control, traffic police forces nationwide arrested 16 criminals transporting drugs, robbing, stealing..., confiscating 205 synthetic drug pills, 1 homemade metal gun, 5 bullets, 1 baton; 16 knives; 1 pepper spray...
Traffic police also inspected and discovered 7 cases of transporting prohibited goods and tax-evading goods, confiscating 128 bottles of foreign wine and many other goods, and handed them over to the authorities for handling./.
