Hope to have clean water plant

(Baonghean.vn) - Located in the north of Quynh Luu district, Hoang Mai town has a population of more than 9,000 people, distributed in 10 blocks and hamlets. According to local people, in the past, the problem of clean water was not as urgent as it is now. Although the water from drilled wells and open wells is salty, it can still be used for bathing and washing, while the water for cooking and drinking is collected from rainwater. However, in recent years, due to the dust pollution from factories in the area, when it rains, the dust mixed in the water makes the water turbid and unusable. To cook or boil water, people here have to go to Mai Hung, Quynh Xuan to buy water, or hire a water truck, at a price of 20,000 VND per block.

Talking to us, Mr. Phan Duc Diem - Vice Chairman of Hoang Mai Town said: In fact, most households in the town have to buy water at high prices for use. Because well water is salty, rainwater is contaminated with dust.

Previously, the town had repeatedly made recommendations and proposals on the construction of a local clean water plant to serve the people, but many years have passed and nothing has been done. In 2007, a project to build a clean water plant, taking water from Vuc Mau Lake to treat and supply to the people of the town and neighboring communes, with state funding and capital mobilized from the people, was considered due to lack of capital so the construction of the plant could not be implemented.

Ms. Phan Thi Nga, living in Block 3, town, said: "My family currently has a well and a tank, but we still have to buy clean water for use, because well water and rainwater are only used for washing, not for drinking. Every month, my family has to spend more than 150 thousand VND to buy clean water. The price of clean water here is even higher than in the city."

The reality of the lack of clean water for the people here has actually been going on for a long time. Every year, the people have made reflections and recommendations to the local government, to the delegations of voters, wishing for a clean water plant for the people to use, whether it is invested by the state or jointly built by the state and the people. However, the response to those urgent requests is only a promise?!

For that reason, up to now, most households in Hoang Mai Town have to suffer from the lack of fresh water for drinking, whether it is sunny or rainy season, and have to buy water at high prices every day. With the current price of water delivered to the house, each month, on average, a family uses about 4-5 cubic meters of water, equivalent to about 100,000 VND, depending on the transportation distance. This is not a comfortable number for any family, because the majority of the Town's residents are farmers, while the number of service businesses is only a small number along National Highway 1A.

Hopefully, the legitimate desire of the people of Hoang Mai Town for a clean water plant will be considered by the sectors and levels, and in the soonest time a clean water plant will be built here so that the people will no longer have to suffer from the current lack of clean water.
