January 28, 2015 08:11

According to AFP, Moscow on January 27 criticized the US for arresting an alleged Russian spy, calling it a "provocative act" that would further damage the already fractured relationship between the two countries.

In a statement, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Lukashevich said: "The United States has decided to take the latest step in Washington's anti-Russian campaign. We demand that the US security agencies stop this series of provocations against Russian representatives."

Mr Lukashevich condemned the US government for not providing any evidence to prove their accusation that the arrested man Evgeny Buryakov was a spy.

Earlier on January 26, US officials said agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) arrested a man believed to be a Russian spy in New York City on charges that he tried to collect economic intelligence and recruit people./.
