One ASEAN - One Biodiversity
(Baonghean) - Biodiversity is the beauty of the diversity of life on earth - from the smallest microorganisms that can only be observed under a microscope, to giant mammals, and the interactions between them and their habitats - the whole that we still call ecosystems (forests, seas, ...). Biodiversity and ecosystems provide humans with food, clean air and water, materials for clothing, medicine, or even shelter, in addition to serving and meeting other basic needs.

The ASEAN region covers only 3% of the total surface area of the Earth, but is home to 19% of the animal, plant and marine species discovered and recorded by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. This is the region with 3 of the 17 most biodiverse countries in the world: Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines. Not only that, the region is also the cradle of a number of biological-geographic agencies and organizations or many centers focusing on research on birds, plants and insects living in a certain area. Due to the land and sea borders, ASEAN member countries often share biologically specific animal and plant species compared to other regions in the world. All of these points put ASEAN in the position of a key region for global environmental sustainability.
Recognizing the importance of this aspect, the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity organized a photo contest for professional and amateur photographers from the 10 member countries, to encourage them to capture moments that demonstrate the richness and uniqueness of the region’s biodiversity.
The photos submitted under the theme "One ASEAN. One Biodiversity" will be collected after the submission deadline of August 31. The works will be evaluated based on the criteria of theme, composition, creativity and photography techniques, with the highest prize up to 1,500 USD. The contest is widely appreciated by the community as a useful and interesting activity, raising awareness and consciousness of each person towards the issue of biodiversity, because protecting biodiversity is protecting our lives.
