A judicial officer was arrested for defrauding money to fix a case.
(Baonghean.vn) -Claiming to be the Deputy Director of the Department of Justice, Nguyen Ngoc Lan received hundreds of millions of dong from the defendant’s relatives under the guise of “fixing the case” for personal expenses. This behavior was exposed by the Criminal Investigation Police Force on Economic Management and Positions of Nghe An Province Police.

The incident began on December 15, 2013, when Dien Chau District Police arrested Vi Thi Hoa (in Chieu Luu - Ky Son) for human trafficking. After Hoa was arrested, her family member, Luong Thi X., asked Nguyen Ngoc Lan (born in 1959), from Quynh Hong Commune, Quynh Luu District, temporarily residing in Hung Binh Ward, Vinh City, an expert at the Nghe An Province State Legal Aid Center, to provide legal advice on Vi Thi Hoa's case. Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Lan promised to get Vi Thi Hoa released on bail if the family "spent" 100 million VND.
After that, Lan called Luong Thi X. and told her to transfer 100 million VND to her AgriBank account to ask for Vi Thi Hoa to be released on bail. On December 19, Luong Thi X transferred 100 million VND to Lan's account. However, after receiving the money, Mr. Lan used it to pay off debts and for personal expenses and could not ask for Vi Thi Hoa to be released on bail as Lan had promised. Since then, Ms. X has called many times but Lan did not answer. On May 26, 2014, after many times demanding money but Nguyen Ngoc Lan did not pay, Ms. X and her family went to the police station to report.
Conducting verification and clarification, on May 29, 2014, the Investigation Police Agency of Nghe An Province Police arrested and urgently searched Nguyen Ngoc Lan. At Nguyen Ngoc Lan's office and lodging, the police agency seized many documents related to criminal acts, many job applications at state agencies of some people in mountainous and rural areas.

At the police station, Nguyen Ngoc Lan initially confessed to having appropriated 100 million VND from Ms. Luong Thi X., because Ms. X's family demanded the money urgently and was afraid of being reported, Nguyen Ngoc Lan paid Ms. X. 20 million VND. Currently, the case is being further investigated to clarify the victims in this case.
Anyone who was tricked by Nguyen Ngoc Lan into accepting money for a job application should report it to the Nghe An Provincial Police Department.
