A director was compensated more than 1 billion for being wrongly arrested.

Dak Lak Provincial People's Court ordered Buon Ma Thuot City People's Procuracy to compensate more than 1 billion VND to Mr. Dinh Quang Dien, Director of Quang Dien Company Limited.

On August 28, the People's Court of Dak Lak province opened an appeal hearing and ordered the People's Procuracy of Buon Ma Thuot City to compensate more than 1 billion VND to Mr. Dinh Quang Dien (Director of Quang Dien Company Limited) according to the Law on State Compensation Liability for wrongful imprisonment for 243 days.

Previously, on June 22, 2011, from an anonymous petition, the Buon Ma Thuot City Police Investigation Agency and the Buon Ma Thuot City People's Procuracy prosecuted and temporarily detained Mr. Dien for fraud and property appropriation. On October 15, 2012, the Dak Lak Province Police Investigation Agency issued a decision to suspend the investigation of the case, suspend the investigation of the accused and release Mr. Dien. The total time Mr. Dien was detained was 243 days, and he was on bail for 238 days.

On January 31, 2013, the People's Procuracy of Buon Ma Thuot City publicly apologized to Mr. Dien for approving the decision to arrest him, and then decided to compensate Mr. Dien with a total amount of more than 267 million VND. However, Mr. Dien did not agree with this compensation and filed a lawsuit demanding compensation of more than 6.9 billion VND for the mental and economic losses during his detention and investigation.

On May 20, 2015, the People's Court of Buon Ma Thuot City brought the case to trial and ordered the People's Procuracy of Buon Ma Thuot City to pay a total compensation of more than 2.8 billion VND. Immediately after that, Mr. Dien appealed a part of the verdict, requesting compensation for damages of nearly 6 billion VND, while the People's Procuracy of Buon Ma Thuot City appealed the entire verdict, only accepting compensation of more than 260 million VND and requesting a trial in absentia.

At the end of the appeal trial, the panel of judges ordered the People's Procuracy of Buon Ma Thuot City to compensate a total amount of more than 1 billion VND. Of which, compensation for loss of income during the time of detention is 38 million VND, compensation for mental damage is 50 million VND, compensation for land rent is 256 million VND, damage to seized property is 329 million VND, damage for violation of economic contracts is 390 million VND... The panel of judges did not accept the interest on bank loans and personal loans incurred during the time of wrongful detention./.
