(Baonghean.vn)– Ta Ven is one of four cultural villages of Keng Du commune (Ky Son – Nghe An). The village has 121 houses and over 500 people, 70km from Muong Xen town, the district center. Not far from the village is the Nam Non river, which is also the Vietnam – Laos border. In the last days of 2012, we visited the Khmu people here.
We arrived at Ta Ven in the late afternoon. From afar, the stilt houses appeared quietly along the mountainside.
The whole village has to share a public water tank. In the afternoon, people often come out to fetch water and bathe.
Today the village has a wedding. Ruou can is ready at the foot of the stairs for guests from near and far villages to drink together. For the Khmu people, ruou can is indispensable in both happy and sad occasions.
On the occasion of a wedding, Khmu women dress more beautifully than usual and walk dozens of kilometers to attend the "party".
Few people would have guessed that this was the bride and groom. Groom Dao took bride Phon home for over a year now and had a baby together before earning enough money to go to his wife's parents' house for the wedding ceremony.
After the wedding, people returned to their daily lives. From early morning, the women in the house got up to pound rice.
The blacksmith blew the bellows from early morning. The Khmu people here still like to forge their own axes and knives for home use. Hat Ta Ven village is too far from the central market, and the farm tools they buy are often not as expected.
