A noble gesture

(Baonghean) -At around 12 noon on February 17 (the 8th day of the Lunar New Year), Mr. Pham Hong Cong and his wife Chu Thi Lien, permanent residents of Hamlet 16, Dien Yen Commune, Dien Chau District, were startled to discover someone's luggage left behind at their shop.

Thinking that a bus had stopped to pick up a customer in front of the restaurant, Mr. Cong tried to contact him, but to no avail. Finally, he discussed with his wife opening the bag to check the address or phone number of the person who had left the luggage to contact and return it. When opening the luggage, Mr. Cong discovered inside the bag a personal computer and many luggage documents along with clothes and personal belongings with the name Ho Si Dung, born in 1992, residing in Hiep 1 hamlet, Nghia Lien commune, Nghia Dan district. To promptly return the luggage to the person who had left it, Mr. Cong hired a motorbike taxi to go to Nghia Lien commune People's Committee to report and return the luggage to Mr. Dung. After verifying that the luggage belonged to a local person, Nghia Lien commune People's Committee received it and notified Mr. Ho Si Duyet, Mr. Dung's father, to come and receive the luggage.

On the morning of February 18, Mr. Duyet, on his way to Yen Ly intersection to leave luggage for his son who was studying at Kon Tum University of Economics, also went to Mr. Cong's house and kindly offered to "compensate" Mr. Cong and Ms. Lien with some money. However, Mr. Cong and Ms. Lien firmly refused to accept it. Mr. Cong confided: "My son Dung, like my son, is not only a poor student with difficult circumstances, but also a rich person with a lot of money. Every time I pick up luggage, I return it and do not accept money from anyone."

It is known that this is not the first time that Mr. Cong and Ms. Lien have found lost property and returned it to its owner. Before that, in 2000, Ms. Lien also found a bag of 30 million VND that a passenger had left at her shop and returned it, refusing the money from the owner. The actions of the couple, who have 4 children studying and run a shop at the intersection of Yen Ly, Pham Hong Cong and Chu Thi Lien, are truly admirable.
