It is known that the turtle discovered by Quynh Luu fishermen is still alive and well, it is a Leatherback turtle, a rare animal that is in danger of extinction and needs to be protected. According to researchers around the world, Leatherback turtles are a species that has received much attention worldwide after turtle populations in the Indo-Pacific Ocean decreased by more than 90% in the 1980s and 1990s. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has listed Leatherback turtles as critically endangered species globally.

Leatherback turtles have been on Earth for over 100 million years and are one of the most widespread species in the world. They can grow up to 3m long when fully grown, but their population is currently in rapid decline, mainly due to fishing and human egg harvesting.
