A farmer successfully created a sugarcane harvesting machine.

Mr. Doan Quang Phong (63 years old), a farmer in Trieu Phong 1 village, Quang Son commune, Ninh Son district, Ninh Thuan province, has successfully "made" a sugarcane harvesting machine based on a KUBOTA 1500 tractor.

This machine can operate on all field terrains, cutting, peeling leaves, breaking off shoots, and producing 10 tons of sugarcane per hour (10 times more than manual labor). After the machine harvests, workers only need to collect and load the sugarcane onto trucks to transport to the sugar factory.

Quang Son commune is one of the sugarcane raw material areas of the province. Every year, when the harvest season comes, there is often a shortage of labor. Moreover, harvesting sugarcane by hand is hard work but the productivity is low, not timely, leading to dry and burnt sugarcane.

Based on his family's experience, Mr. Doan Quang Phong thought of ways to mechanize sugarcane harvesting to reduce human labor and at the same time increase productivity and efficiency of sugarcane production in the locality. As a farmer himself, Mr. Doan Quang Phong has no mechanical skills; no money to buy materials, process and manufacture machines; his family initially did not believe that his work would be effective.

With his passion, he researched documents, persuaded his wife and children, and finally the whole family agreed to let him "make a sugarcane cutting machine."

With the financial support from his children, especially the effective collaboration of his son Doan Quang Thai (who recently graduated from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, majoring in Machine Manufacturing, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry), after many times of diligently designing, manufacturing, and unsuccessfully testing in practice, having to do it again many times, he finally created a machine that was put into effective sugarcane harvesting.

He hopes that the relevant sectors will recognize the patent and consider providing loans with preferential interest rates to produce many high-quality, low-cost sugarcane cutting machines to serve sugarcane harvesting well./.
