RMN Commander Abdul Aziz Jaafar confirmed that the CB90-type assault craft deployed from Naval Base No. 5 lost contact with the corvette KD Paus during the mission.

Boat numbered CB204 and ship KD Paus left the base in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah state at 5:00 a.m. on October 5 (local time) and lost contact with the escort ship at 11:15 a.m.
"The incident occurred in bad weather conditions in the Pulau Mengalum area of Sabah," he said.
According to Mr. Abdul Aziz, the search and rescue operation was conducted with the participation of vehicles and forces from RMN, Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) and Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA).
