A land of "talented people"

(Baonghean) - In the memory of many people, Nam Trung commune is a rural area with many difficulties, because it is located in the "flood center" of the "5 south" land of Nam Dan district. However, today, Nam Trung has risen strongly, becoming one of the first communes in Nam Dan to meet the new rural standards. This is the result that most comprehensively reflects the change of the homeland with a rich revolutionary tradition.

Land of "spiritual land and talented people"

Nam Dan is known as a "spiritual land of talented people". Nam Trung (formerly Trung Can) is no exception with many famous generals, well-educated, talented, and having contributed to the people and the country. According to the book "Nghe An Royal Examinations - (1075 - 1919)" compiled by author Dao Tam Tinh, Nghe An has 2 villages famous for the number of people with high royal examinations, which are Quynh Doi village (Quynh Luu district) accounting for 17% of the total royal examinations in Nghe An and Trung Can village (Nam Dan district) accounting for 11%.

From the 17th century to the early 20th century, in Trung Can commune, there were 8 people who passed the royal examinations; 16 people who passed the intermediate examinations. Doctor Tong Tat Thang was considered the pioneer of Trung Can land under the Le dynasty, serving as a mandarin to the position of Minister of Personnel and Grand Scholar of Dong Cac; was awarded the title of Nghia Quan Cong, and made many glorious achievements to protect the border and preserve the territory of the country and homeland. Trung Can is also the homeland of outstanding children of the nation such as Trung Quan Cong Nguyen Nhan My, who contributed to restoring the Le Trung Hung dynasty; Tam the ngu hoang hoa Thuong Thuong (passed the doctoral exam in the year of Nham Thin - 1712),...

Today, the land of Nam Trung still preserves many historical and cultural relics. Of which, 2 relics are ranked as national historical and cultural relics, including Trung Can communal house and the tomb of Doctor Tong Tat Thang; the memorial site of comrade Nguyen Tiem - the first Secretary of Nghe An Provincial Party Committee. There are 3 provincial historical and cultural relics, including Dong Chau communal house, Nguyen Nhan My church and tomb; Duong Lieu communal house. In addition, the temples of Giap Dong, Giap Bao, Lum Tum, Quynh Trai... have also contributed to making the people of Nam Trung more proud.

And here, since 2010, the Memorial House of the late Minister of Public Security Tran Quoc Hoan was built and has just been upgraded and renovated to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Minister's birth. It has also become a cultural address, further strengthening pride and creating motivation for the people of Nam Trung.

Towards wealth and civilization.

On the first day of 2016, when we came to Nam Trung commune, we clearly felt the prosperity of a countryside with a rich revolutionary tradition, a countryside located in the “flood center” of Nam Dan district, which is rising and changing. Going around the commune, concrete roads stretch out, replacing muddy dirt roads. High-rise buildings of schools, clinics, offices and people's houses are interspersed with gardens of green trees all year round, creating a highlight and embellishment for the fresh countryside picture.

Ms. Ha Thi Minh, Hamlet 10, shared: "In recent years, the commune has directed the overall planning of village roads, alleys, schools, clinics, and spacious cultural houses, so the renovation and improvement of mixed gardens and fields have also been taken care of, and the people's lives have improved significantly."

Comrade Dinh Hong Quang - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Nam Trung commune said: To implement the new rural program, the Party Committee of the commune issued Resolution No. 06/NQ-DU, from which the People's Committee of the commune built a plan, reviewed the current situation, developed a project to submit to the competent authority for approval and implementation. And propaganda and mobilization work was carried out first, in which the pioneering and exemplary role of cadres and party members "doing first" was promoted and the people were mobilized to implement together. Accordingly, in addition to the spring rice crop, the commune focused on directing people to grow corn, peanuts, vegetables including Dong Anh pumpkin, cowpeas, various types of mustard greens and build embankments to raise fish.

Through land conversion, the commune has concentrated 5% of the land in some areas for people to contract. There have been 24 households contracted from 1 to 6 hectares to build farms, raising buffalo, cows, pigs, chickens, ducks, geese, fish and rice. Typically, Mr. Ho Duy Hiep's household in hamlet 7 has contracted 3 hectares of land for rice production combined with fish farming (yield of about 2 tons of fish/year and ducks with a scale of 1,000 meat ducks/batch (3 batches per year). Or Mr. Nguyen Van Thang's household in hamlet 3, raises 20 buffalo, 30-40 pigs/batch; more than 100 geese, combined with fish and rice.

People of Nam Trung commune are now also very active in many other professions to improve and enhance their lives.

Nam Trung has 13 wooden furniture manufacturing facilities bringing high economic value to the people.

Currently, in Nam Trung, there are up to 20% of working-age laborers, equivalent to 600 workers working as bricklayers in and outside the district; more than 100 workers participate in the "two baskets" service, daily purchasing agricultural products produced by people in the commune and neighboring communes to "go" to Vinh market. The traditional carpentry profession with 13 carpentry workshops continues to expand and diversify products according to market demand, attracting nearly 100 workers to participate. Nam Trung is also a locality with more than 500 people working in the markets of Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia... Thanks to that, the average income per capita in Nam Trung has been raised, reaching 29.7 million VND/year (end of 2015), the poverty rate has decreased to 6.4%.

Economic development, favorable conditions to mobilize people, combined with good support from the State, help from businesses, children far from home contribute to the locality to build infrastructure. Nam Trung is also a locality that meets national standards on health and the commune was recognized as meeting new rural standards in 2014 along with the first 3 pilot communes of Nam Dan district.

Building a new countryside is a long-term, continuous process, and is the foundation for creating higher development. Therefore, becoming a new rural commune is the premise and motivation for the Party Committee, government and people of Nam Trung to continue competing in labor production, building the homeland to become increasingly rich and strong, worthy of the homeland with a rich tradition of revolution and mandarinate, the land of "spiritual land and talented people".
