Mourinho aims to win the English championship in his first season at Man Utd

Man Utd coach reveals his conversation with the club's board of directors when he first joined Old Trafford.

After three seasons without a trophy in the Premier League, the Man Utd board has become more realistic. Even when they invited Jose Mourinho to become coach, those who are always thirsty for titles are not delusional.

"The leadership did not give me any ultimatum or specific request. Their message was that I should work for three years, improve the team's performance and bring the team to the position it deserves," Mourinho revealed on July 23.

"My message is that I want to win the English championship in my first season leading Man Utd. Top 4 is not the target. We play to win the championship. When the season goes on, if the difference in points does not allow us to win the championship, then we will set another target. When you cannot win the championship, the next target is Top 4," said Mourinho.

The Man Utd manager also confirmed that he is ready to admit defeat honestly: "One day, if there is a bad season or if I don't get a ticket to the Champions League, I don't want to hide by saying the goal is just to get into the Top 4."
