Heavy rain causes severe local flooding in Cua Lo town
(Baonghean.vn) - Due to the influence of storm No. 2, the provinces from Thanh Hoa to Quang Tri have had moderate to heavy rain, and in some places very heavy rain. According to information from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the average rainfall is from 30 - 60mm.
Some places had heavier rain such as Con Cuong: 113mm; Do Luong 178mm; Hon Ngu (Nghe An) 188mm; Vinh City 189mm;... In the coastal provinces of the Northeast and North Central regions, there were strong winds of level 5, some places level 6, gusting above level 6; Hon Ngu (Nghe An) had strong gusts of 18m/s (level 8).
Cua Lo town is also located in the heavy rain area affected by storm No. 2 (storm Bebinca), so from 11pm on June 22, many areas were partially flooded. Especially on Binh Minh street, the central street of the town was almost completely flooded. According to our records, until early this morning (June 23), vehicles on this route were still almost unable to circulate. Vehicles from 24 seats to 7 seats were still stalled on the road. In particular, electric cars, a very convenient means of transport for tourists, could not travel. In many sections, the water level was nearly 1 meter high, such as in front of the Thai Binh Duong hotel to the To Gi hotel.
Rental bicycles left on the sidewalk were also flooded.
Binh Minh Street from Cong Doan Hotel to Thai Binh Duong Hotel was flooded more than half a meter deep, many cars and motorbikes stalled.
The furniture is placed on the table and chairs.

Mr. Hoang Kim Hai (resident of Dong Hai hamlet, Nghi Thu ward), owner of a small restaurant next to Thai Binh Duong hotel, said that outside of the tourist season, there is still a large drainage system near the Ministry of Construction's guesthouse. However, this drainage system is currently not in use. Therefore, the continuous heavy rains during the night and early morning of June 23 caused Binh Minh street, the main road of Cua Lo town, to remain heavily flooded. During the night of June 22 and early morning of June 23, all restaurants and cafes on this road were flooded and could not operate.
Just nearly a week ago, on June 18, the working group of the People's Committee of Cua Lo town organized an inspection of the work of flood prevention in 2013. The group inspected a number of major key points that are prone to local flooding. In particular, attention was paid to the eastern drainage ditch from Hoa Dinh Block to Trang An confectionery factory, Dong Hai Bridge, Bac Hai and the ditch along Road No. 3 in Nghi Thu ward. After the inspection, Mr. Le Minh Thong - Chairman of the People's Committee of the town requested the People's Committee of Nghi Thu ward to continue to maintain the assigned tasks well, especially the "4 on-site" motto to proactively prevent and develop prevention and control plans close to reality before, during and after the flood and storm season.
