'Golden rain' saves many crop areas in Nghe An
(Baonghean.vn) - After more than a month of severe drought, the rains in Nghe An have reduced the hot temperature and saved hundreds of hectares of rice and other crops from the risk of drying out due to drought.

*THoang Mai communeThere are 2,069 hectares of various crops, including more than 1,000 hectares of rice. For nearly a month, the prolonged heat has severely affected 210 hectares of rice and 60 hectares of vegetables, some areas of crops have died, especially in areas with difficult irrigation conditions and in the Quynh Lien vegetable growing area. Pests and diseases have also put many areas at risk of total loss. The rain on the afternoon of July 1st has contributed to cooling down, many rice fields with yellowed leaves now have water.

In the summer-autumn crop of 2019, the whole Anh Son district planted 2,925 hectares of rice. In recent days, due to the harsh weather and prolonged heat, the water level in the dams has dried up, making irrigation difficult. The rain on the afternoon of July 1 and the morning of July 2 has greatly improved the situation.
Immediately after the rain, farmers are gathering in the fields to get water for their fields and build banks to avoid water loss for the rice to prepare for ear formation, because this is the period when rice plants need water to store nutrients.

* After nearly a month of prolonged heat,Quy Chau districtMore than 2,800 households have lacked water for daily life, over 500 hectares of 1,800 hectares of rice fields are dry and more than 307 hectares have no water for production. According to the agricultural calendar, the 2019 summer-autumn crop ended on June 30, 2019, but due to drought, the agricultural calendar had to be extended by 10 days, until July 10, 2019. After the rain, the district and commune agricultural sectors went to localities to provide technical support and implement early planting to ensure planting of all watered areas. The overdue areas will be reviewed by the sector to propose support for other short-term crop varieties, which can be biomass corn, sweet potatoes or beans of all kinds, etc.
