Ticket speculation?
In response to the question of how airline tickets are sold and distributed during Tet, representatives of airlines all said: Tickets have been sold online for a long time and are valid for one year. That means, airline tickets, including Tet, are sold all year round, and as long as there are tickets, they are still for sale, until they are sold out.
However, the number of Tet tickets sold all year round is only equal to the number of tickets on regular days, not including the number of tickets (seats) when airlines increase flights during Tet.
Normally during the Tet holiday season, in addition to the usual flights and number of seats, airlines will add 2 or 3 more flights than usual, but some airlines do not add flights due to limited capacity.

In fact, agents or ordinary people, if they have time and money, can also speculate on Tet tickets by waiting to buy them online. As soon as they receive information that the airline is launching a new Tet ticket sale, they place orders to buy many tickets, pay immediately to get the tickets, and then resell them to others at a higher price, after paying the ticket refund fee.
To avoid speculation, airlines often sell Tet tickets in batches and the reservation time is also shortened to the maximum. If on normal days, the reservation time can be up to 48 hours, then if the Tet ticket is successfully ordered, 1 hour later, if the buyer does not come to pay for the ticket, the ticket will be immediately canceled and opened for sale to someone else.
This also explains why some people cannot buy tickets in the morning but can get tickets in the afternoon; some people cannot buy tickets in the morning but can buy them later. In reality, just like train and bus tickets, plane tickets are often difficult to buy during Tet because the market demand during Tet is too high, while the supply is limited.

Wait... the last minute
Up to now, the domestic aviation market has had the participation of 4 airlines, including: Vietnam Airlines (VNA), Jetstar Pacific (JPA), Air Mekong (AMK) and VietJet Air (VJA). However, not all airlines can increase flight capacity during Tet. For JPA, AMK and VJA, it seems that they will not increase flights during Tet, because each airline only has 3-6 small aircraft.
The entire market is looking to VNA - the national airline that accounts for nearly 80% of the domestic aviation market share in Vietnam. VNA leaders said that to meet the needs of passengers during the Tet holiday, in addition to regular flights, the airline will add 846 flights, equivalent to 155,600 more seats during this Lunar New Year.
Accordingly, on the two-way route Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City, it is expected to provide 88,200 more seats; on the route Ho Chi Minh City - Da Nang and vice versa, VNA is expected to add 54,200 more seats. For other routes, VNA also increased capacity on 5 routes from Ho Chi Minh City to Hai Phong, Buon Ma Thuot, Pleiku, Quy Nhon, Nha Trang to serve passenger demand during Tet.
Also according to VNA representative, the first sale of Tet tickets was carried out on August 10, 2011. According to the plan, in early January 2012, all remaining seats on regular flights will be sold and the capacity will be increased during the Lunar New Year.
