Tattoo dyes are potentially toxic and have been linked to a variety of illnesses, from allergies to cancer. Red ink is the most toxic, followed by blue, green and black.

The agency also plans to publish a list of questionable ingredients found in tattoo dyes.

Notably, tattoo artists have welcomed the research. Rick Stevens, a leading exponent of the industry in the UK, says they have had to deal with an influx of cheap, questionable quality ink from China.

“There is simply no system in place to check the quality of tattoo inks,” he stressed.

According to Sputnik
