"If you want people to follow you, you must set an example first."

(Baonghean) - From the practice and experience of implementing Directive 03-CT/TU dated May 14, 2011 on "Continuing to promote studying and following Ho Chi Minh's moral example" in recent years, to promote and improve the effectiveness of studying and following Uncle Ho, implementing his teachings in his Testament, it is necessary to continue to focus on doing well a number of points:

Firstly, correctly perceive Ho Chi Minh's thoughts on the position, role and task of moral education, and fight against moral and lifestyle degradation.

President Ho Chi Minh's testament advised: "Every party member and cadre must be truly imbued with revolutionary ethics, truly thrifty, honest, impartial and selfless. We must keep our Party truly clean, and must be worthy of being a leader and a truly loyal servant of the people." He also advised to educate the younger generation, union members and youth in ethics, and to educate and help victims of the old social regime to become honest people.

Second, thoroughly grasp the Party's viewpoint, make studying and following Ho Chi Minh's moral example a regular and important task of every Party organization, government, and mass organization, in the daily life of cadres, Party members, and all citizens. Studying and following Ho Chi Minh's moral example is the responsibility of the entire political system, of each person, each position, and each working position. For cadres and Party members in leadership positions, the responsibility must be even higher. Studying and following Uncle Ho must begin with the most specific, simple, and smallest daily tasks.

Cadres and party members, especially leaders and key leaders at all levels, need to uphold their sense of responsibility, fight against individualism, resolutely fight against all manifestations of negativity, bureaucracy, and waste; be close to the people, respect and listen to their opinions, match words with actions, and be worthy of being "leaders and loyal servants of the people" as Uncle Ho advised.

Third, closely combine the implementation of Directive 03-CT/TU with the resolution of a number of urgent issues on Party building according to Resolution 4 of the Central Committee (11th tenure) "A number of urgent issues on Party building at present". At all levels, select a number of key issues, limitations and shortcomings that need to be overcome, especially outstanding ethical and lifestyle issues that cause public outrage; have specific plans and measures to overcome them, assign responsible leaders; focus on resolving them thoroughly, creating trust for cadres, party members and the people.

Fourth, combine building and fighting, strictly implement Party discipline, State laws, and the responsibility of leaders to set an example. Setting an example is one of the principles of ethical practice in Ho Chi Minh's ethical thought. Uncle Ho taught, "If you want people to follow you, you must set an example first." He emphasized the action of "party members go first, the country follows." In implementing Directive 03-CT/TU, the Secretariat issued Regulation 101-QD/TU on setting an example for cadres and party members, especially leaders, in practicing ethics. In fact, in many places, Party committees have issued specific regulations on setting an example and directing implementation, along with registration, inspection, and supervision mechanisms... which have brought about very positive results.

In the current situation, a number of cadres and party members have degraded in political ideology, morality and lifestyle, the role of leaders in setting an example becomes even more important to regain trust and attract people to follow. In order for setting an example to have concrete results, cadres and party members must register in advance, develop programs and plans to strive, have the help of inspection and supervision of the party organization, and receive comments from the people.

Fifth, placing the content of studying and following Ho Chi Minh's moral example in the implementation of the 9th Central Resolution (11th tenure) on "Building and developing Vietnamese culture and people to meet the requirements of sustainable national development" has repeatedly emphasized ethics and studying and following Ho Chi Minh's moral example and determined the goal: "Building a comprehensively developed Vietnamese culture and people, aiming at truth - goodness - beauty, imbued with national spirit, humanity, democracy and science. Culture truly becomes a solid spiritual foundation of society, an important endogenous strength to ensure sustainable development and firmly protect the Fatherland for the goal of a rich people, a strong country, democracy, fairness and civilization".

Promoting and improving the quality and effectiveness of studying and following Ho Chi Minh's moral example is to contribute to the successful implementation of the cause of building and firmly defending the country.
