The US is holding a package containing 18 severed heads at the airport.
A package containing 18 severed heads was seized by U.S. Customs and Border Protection at Chicago O'Hare International Airport, according to ABC News on January 15.
Customs officials said the shipment was held before being handed over to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. "We intervened because they could no longer hold these human heads," Tony Brucci of the medical examiner's office told ABC News. "We are examining the heads in the forensic lab, but there is no wrongdoing with the shipment."

The shipment was en route to a research center near Chicago, but it appears there were paperwork issues. “The heads are properly preserved and will be used for anatomical research,” said Brucci. “It’s just the paperwork that’s not valid.”
"Researchers in Rome used these heads and then transported them to the US, to a facility near Chicago. This seemingly gruesome event is actually nothing unusual. Doctors, medical facilities, and research organizations regularly transport human body parts by air," Brucci explained. "This case attracted attention due to paperwork issues."
"It's not as strange as we think," Brucci said. "People still transport body parts to universities and hospitals, it's just that we don't hear much about it."
In 2010, a shipment containing 60 human heads and head parts was held up at an airport in Arkansas. The heads were intended for medical training purposes but were stopped due to errors in paperwork and packaging.
