US sends 6 planes, 300 personnel to Türkiye to support fight against IS

(Baonghean.vn) - The US military said it sent six F-16 aircraft and about 300 personnel to Incirlik base in Türkiye on August 9. The move comes after Ankara allowed US aircraft to operate in the area to fight IS last month.

The Pentagon said in a statement that a contingent from the 31st Fighter Squadron had also arrived at the base. Support equipment had also been sent, but it did not specify what it was. "The United States and Turkey are part of a coalition of nations committed to combating ISIS and pursuing peace and stability in the region," the statement said.

Meanwhile, Türkiye's private Dogan news agency reported that six F-16 fighters were present at Incirlik base in southern Adada province.

Türkiye has faced growing unrest in its territory near the Syrian border, with fears the conflict could spill over into Turkey and worsen relations with the country's Kurdish minority.
