US calls for increased naval capacity to counter Russia and China
(Baonghean.vn) - On January 16, Vice Admiral Richard Brown, Commander of the US Navy's Surface Forces, proposed that the Navy should equip both unmanned and manned ships to compete with Russia and China for control of the sea.

“We need… medium and large unmanned surface ships. We need a modern frigate and a large surface force,” Mr. Brown said at a conference in Arlington, Virginia.
Vice Admiral Brown also called China and Russia two “emerging” nations, challenging the United States along the East Asian mainland coast, the Eastern Mediterranean, and the North Atlantic, respectively.
The general also warned that the US Navy needs to prepare for great power competition that could be “more difficult than the Cold War,” noting that the US must work harder to maintain control of the seas.
