US affirms peace with North Korea can only come after denuclearization
(Baonghean.vn) - On July 23, a spokesperson for the US State Department affirmed that any peace regime with North Korea can only be achieved after the Pyongyang government abandons its nuclear weapons program.

The statement was made by a representative of the US State Department in the context of stalled denuclearization negotiations amid North Korea's demand to officially end the 1950-1953 Korean War.
“Peace on the Korean Peninsula is a common goal of the entire world. However, the international community has repeatedly affirmed that it will not accept a nuclear-armed North Korea. As we have stated before, we are committed to building a peace mechanism with the goal of replacing the armistice agreement once Pyongyang denuclearizes,” the diplomat said.
US and North Korean officials have made little progress in implementing an agreement reached between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un at a historic summit last month.
Under the agreement, Pyongyang committed to “complete denuclearization” of the Korean Peninsula in exchange for the United States providing security guarantees to the Northeast Asian nation. Pyongyang viewed a complete end to the war as a security guarantee, thereby dismantling its nuclear and missile programs.
