(Baonghean.vn) - On January 11, The Hill quoted US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin as saying that the US will continue its tough sanctions policy against Russia.

Speaking to reporters after a closed-door meeting with members of the US House of Representatives on lifting sanctions on companies with ties to Russian businessman Oleg Deripaska, Mr. Mnuchin stated: "I will just make a statement that this administration has been tougher on Russia and has implemented more sanctions than ever before, and we will continue to do so."

According to Mr. Mnuchin, the US Treasury Department "has made the best assessment when applying laws and regulations to us, thereby creating effective sanctions programs."

The Treasury Secretary's comments came in response to concerns previously expressed by US lawmakers regarding the lifting of sanctions. Republican Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi said he was "very concerned" about the development.

"I fear this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to lifting sanctions," he stressed. Senior US officials have repeatedly stated in recent months that they will continue to impose additional sanctions on Russia./.
