The US is doing everything it can to prevent North Korea from acquiring nuclear weapons.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said one of his top priorities is to find a way to prevent North Korea from acquiring nuclear weapons.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on June 16 that the United States is taking “all actions” necessary to ensure it remains fully aware of any threat from North Korea.
“The American people should feel confident that the government is taking every action necessary to ensure that we are aware of the risks and threats that come from North Korea,” Pompeo said in an interview with Fox News.

The US Secretary of State's statement came after US President Donald Trump on June 11 publicly opposed the use of CIA spies to spy on North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, saying that this would never happen under his supervision. Mr. Pompeo - who served as CIA Director from 2017 to 2018 - declined to comment on intelligence matters, but only emphasized that the US was still taking all necessary steps.
“We are making every effort necessary to make sure we know what is going on around the world. That includes every country,” Pompeo said.
Secretary Pompeo said that his current role is America's top diplomat and one of the important tasks of the head of diplomacy is to "find a way to achieve an outcome where North Korea does not possess nuclear weapons."
