Russian and US foreign ministers to meet in Malaysia
On the sidelines of the ASEAN conference in Malaysia, the Russian and US Foreign Ministers will have a meeting, scheduled to take place at 18:00 (local time).
According to RIA Novosti on July 10, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov will meet on the sidelines of ASEAN events in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The US State Department's schedule said the meeting is scheduled to take place at 6:00 p.m. (Kuala Lumpur time) on July 10.
Earlier, the official spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said that a meeting between the two foreign ministers of Russia and the US on the sidelines of ASEAN events is being planned.
Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov will also have a number of bilateral meetings with Asian colleagues.
According to Ms. Zakharova, the participants of the meetings will exchange assessments of the world situation and are expected to have "difficult discussions on the main sore points of today's geopolitics."
The US State Department has also confirmed that Secretary Rubio will attend ASEAN events in Malaysia. The US, like Russia, is one of the association's dialogue partners.
Foreign Ministers Sergei Lavrov and Marco Rubio have spoken by phone several times and met in person for the first time at Russian-US talks in Riyadh in February. At that meeting, the sides agreed to start working to normalize bilateral relations.
