US approves new pill to treat HIV

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved a new pill called Genvoya to treat adults and adolescents infected with HIV.
Director of the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research of the US Food and Drug Administration, Mr. Edward Cox said that this is a mixed drug containing the new active ingredient tenofovir, which is very effective in treating patients infected with HIV type 1, while reducing side effects.
Before being approved, Genvoya was tested on about 3,171 patients. The results showed that this drug can significantly reduce the amount of virus causing the disease, more effectively than other treatments.
According to estimates from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 1.2 million people in this country are infected with HIV, of which about 150,000 people are unaware that they are carrying the disease of the century./.
