AFP reported that on August 27, Polish Minister of National Defense Tomasz Siemoniak said the US will deploy heavy weapons to this European Union (EU) member country next year, amid high regional tensions due to Russia's actions and the conflict in Ukraine.

“We expect this deployment to take place in mid-2016,” Siemoniak told Polish news agency PAP.

He added that after negotiations, Warsaw and Washington had identified locations for these weapons in western and northeastern Poland, but did not specify the locations.

According to him, the terms of the deployment will be finalized at a NATO defense ministers' conference in early October in Brussels, Belgium.

In June, the US announced that it would provide tanks, infantry fighting vehicles and other heavy weapons to about 5,000 US soldiers stationed in several Baltic and Eastern European countries./.
