US finds document stating disputed Dokdo island belongs to Japan

State governmentNew JerseyThe US has just announced a surprising discovery about sovereignty over the disputed islands between Japan and South Korea.

KBS reported that two days ago, the state governmentNew JerseyDocuments have been discovered stating that the disputed islands between Japan and South Korea, which the two sides call Takeshima and Dokdo respectively, are in fact Japanese.


The document consists of a 1 meter long stake with the words "Dokdo Island (which the other side)Tokyocalled Takeshima Island) belongs to Japan. This stake is placed next to a stele with similar inscription. This stele commemorates Korean women who were forced to work as comfort women for Japanese soldiers during World War II.


Both of the above "evidences" were accidentally found in the public library.PalisadesPark, surprising even the governmentNew Jerseyand the Korean community in this state. Korean Association inNew Jerseysaid it would clarify the truth related to this information and investigate the authenticity and legality of the above evidence.


On the same day, the Korean Consulate General in New York also discovered a small square piece of paper about 5cm long with the words "Dokdo Island belongs to Japan" written in English. This piece of paper was attached right under the sign of the Korean Consulate General.

The information comes as the Japanese government is planning to postpone taking the disputed islands with South Korea to the International Court of Justice (ICJ). This delay is expected to be extended until at least next month to consider the possibility of improving bilateral relations after the two countries' foreign ministers meet again.New Yorkat the end of last September.


Previously, Japan planned to submit the Takeshima/Dokdo case to the ICJ later this month to protest South Korean President Lee Myung-bak's unprecedented visit to the disputed islands in August.
