(Baonghean.vn) - The New York Times on October 24 quoted current and retired US officials as saying that Chinese spies often eavesdrop on US President Donald Trump when he uses his personal cell phone. And Beijing has used the collected information to influence US policy.

The newspaper said Mr Trump's aides had repeatedly warned him that calls on personal mobile phones were not secure and that Chinese and Russian spies often eavesdropped on those conversations.

However, they said the president still refused to give up his habit of chatting on his personal phone.

These officials asserted that US intelligence agencies have discovered that China and Russia regularly eavesdrop on President Trump's phone calls, thanks to their personnel embedded in foreign governments or interfering with the communications of foreign officials.

China has a sophisticated approach to these calls and uses the information it collects to determine what the US president is thinking, who he tends to listen to and how best to influence him, according to these officials.

In particular, Beijing will use the information it obtains to find ways to prevent the escalation of the trade war between the two countries.

The White House has not yet responded to a request for comment on the above information.
