AFP reported that Pentagon spokesman George Little said on March 19 that the US is conducting flight training of B-52 bombers capable of carrying nuclear weapons in the skies of South Korea, a clear signal sent to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea amid escalating military tensions.
According to Mr. Little, the flights are part of the annual joint US-South Korea military training, which is seen as a move to emphasize the US's commitment and ability to protect Seoul from the threat of attack from North Korea.

In response to UN sanctions after its third nuclear test last month, Pyongyang has warned of a "second Korean war" and threatened to launch preemptive strikes against South Korea and the United States.
Mr. Little said B-52s from Anderson Air Force Base in Guam flew over South Korea on March 8 as part of the "Foal Eagle" exercise.
"The B-52 Stratofortress can perform a wide range of functions, including the ability to deliver precision-guided conventional and nuclear bombs," he said.
B-52s have participated in previous annual exercises, but according to Mr. Little, the Pentagon wanted to emphasize this mobilization in the context of escalating tensions.
"We want to draw attention to the expansion of deterrence capabilities, which we think is very important to demonstrate in the face of North Korea's rhetoric," he said./.
