US Navy Secretary Richard Spenser said on March 7 that Washington's aircraft carriers remain relevant despite Russia's successful development of a revolutionary hypersonic missile, stressing that the US Navy has taken measures to prevent this type of weapon, according toSputnik
"We believe that aircraft carriers will be a decisive force in high-tech conflicts," Mr. Spenser affirmed in a hearing before the US House of Representatives.
According to Secretary Spenser, the hypersonic technology race is fierce among the major powers, causing their launch times to be increasingly shortened. The US military is also accelerating the development of this weapon line and will soon have the ability to attack and defend at extremely fast speeds.
Russian President Vladimir Putin in his state-of-the-nation address on March 1 revealed many new weapons, including the Kinzhal hypersonic missile. This type is assessed to be able to quickly destroy US nuclear aircraft carriers and battle groups. However,The Russian President also emphasized that all moves to strengthen Russia's military power are for defensive purposes and within the framework of international agreements.
