May 14, 2013 08:34

On May 13, US President Barack Obama and British Prime Minister David Cameron, who are visiting Washington, agreed to increase pressure on the Syrian government with the goal of forcing the departure of President Bashar al-Assad.

During a joint press conference at the White House, the two leaders pledged to continue supporting the Syrian people, including increasing humanitarian aid to the opposition and working toward establishing a transitional government to bring peace to the country.

President Obama also said that the US will continue to investigate to find the truth about the use of chemical weapons in Syria, thereby taking next steps.

Meanwhile, Mr. Cameron announced that he had not made a decision to arm the Syrian opposition, but said that Britain would double non-lethal aid to this force next year.

The US President and British Prime Minister's discussions also include the Middle East peace process, the US-Europe free trade agreement and the G-8 summit next month in Northern Ireland./.
