On the morning of December 27, in Hanoi, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front held a conference to summarize the 2012 "Day for the Poor" Campaign.

Attending the conference were comrades: Vu Van Ninh - Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister; Huynh Dam - Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Head of the Central "Day for the Poor" Campaign Committee; Giang Seo Phu - Minister, Chairman of the Ethnic Committee and comrades representing ministries, branches and localities.

According to the report at the Conference, in 2012, the Fund for the Poor nationwide mobilized over 1,500 billion VND, of which the Central Fund for the Poor received 99.822 billion VND from organizations and units; mobilized nearly 6,000 billion VND to implement the social security program, supporting the construction of over 84,990 Great Unity houses for poor households. Accumulated in 12 years from the mobilization to December 26, 2012, the Fund for the Poor nationwide mobilized 8,558.9 billion VND, of which the Central Fund for the Poor mobilized 497 billion VND; mobilized over 19,000 billion VND to implement the social security program (2009-2012).

From the State fund, the community's support, and the efforts of the poor, 1,304,700 Great Solidarity houses have been built and repaired. Up to now, 6,453 communes, wards, and towns; 334 districts, towns, and cities; 17 provinces and cities across the country have completed the elimination of dilapidated houses, creating stable housing for the poor; millions of poor people have been supported with production materials and tuition fees for their children's education...

Speaking at the Conference, Comrade Vu Van Ninh - Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister welcomed the Vietnam Fatherland Front at all levels and thanked the noble sentiments of compatriots and soldiers nationwide, of individuals and international organizations who have made noble gestures with the spirit of "For the poor". The Deputy Prime Minister said that poverty reduction and care for the poor are among the major and important policies that have always received the attention and direction of the Party and State. In 2012, the Party and State allocated over VND323,900 billion for social security policies, equivalent to 35.8% of total State budget expenditure, an increase of 33.2% compared to 2011. Currently, the poverty rate nationwide is about 10%; the poverty rate in poor districts according to Resolution 30a is about 45% on average.

Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh suggested that ministries, branches and authorities at all levels need to coordinate more actively with the Fatherland Front in concretizing the implementation so that the Party and State's policies on hunger eradication and poverty reduction and care for the poor are more effective, practical and sustainable.
