VFA report said that in 2015, the quantity of exported rice reached 6.568 million tons, FOB value reached 2.68 billion USD, CIF value reached 2.78 billion USD. The average export price reached 407.97 USD/ton FOB.
With this result, export quantity increased by 4%, but FOB value decreased by nearly 4%, CIF value decreased by nearly 6%, average export price decreased by 33.7% USD/ton compared to 2014.
Regarding the development of rice export in 2015, according to VFA, export in the first quarter decreased sharply due to lack of contracts since 2014 and weak demand in early 2015. In the second quarter, export recovered and increased slightly due to increased demand with winter-spring crop supply. However, export decreased significantly in the third quarter, causing export in the first 9 months to decrease by 9.6% compared to the same period in 2014.
The good news is that exports in the fourth quarter of 2015 increased dramatically. This is also the highest increase ever, due to the signing and implementation of large concentrated contracts with the Philippines and Indonesia.
With this result, Vietnam's official rice export in 2015 ranked third after India (10.23 million tons) and Thailand (9.55 million tons).
Forecasting the export situation in early 2016, VFA said that the balance of rice for export in 2016 is expected to not change much compared to 2015. Therefore, the rice export plan in 2016 is about 6.5 million tons. The goal is still to export all the rice in the population.
In the immediate future, based on the number of contracts signed in 2015 and the number of new contracts expected to be signed at the beginning of the year, as well as the delivery capacity, the export plan for the first quarter of 2016 is 1.2 million tons, 300,000 tons higher than the same period in the first quarter of 2015.
