Export rice price

In the export market, according to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), the export price of 5% broken rice from Vietnam remains stable at 397 USD/ton. This price is lower than the same product priced at 403 USD/ton from Thailand. However, it is still higher than the price of 384 USD/ton from India and 392 USD/ton from Pakistan.

Thai rice exports in the 2024-25 crop year are expected to reach just 7.1 million tonnes, down 28.2% year-on-year, Platts said. Prices for 100% Grade B Thai Hom Mali fragrant rice rose to a more than six-month high of $1,084 per tonne FOB FCL on May 26, up $125 from the previous month, according to Platts. The main reasons were tight supplies and strong demand from the US during the 90-day tariff suspension period.

Mr. Wanniwat Kitireanglarp, Deputy Secretary General of the Thai Rice Exporters Association, said that this type of rice is only harvested once a year, so the pressure of supply and demand could cause the price to exceed the threshold of 1,100 USD/ton in the near future. Some exporters also expect the price to continue to increase until the next harvest season in November-December.

Regarding the situation on May 28, the rice market maintained a stable momentum in areas with low sources, buying and selling transactions were steady, and prices fluctuated slightly. Raw rice prices in the Mekong Delta remained unchanged compared to yesterday. Retail rice prices at the market did not record any adjustments. Rice prices on May 28 remained stable compared to the previous day according to an update from the Department of Agriculture and Environment of An Giang province.

At the Thailand Rice Conference (TRC 2025), the Thai Minister of Commerce affirmed that he will develop the rice industry by improving product quality, expanding new markets, targeting the EU, Japan and the Middle East, in line with the policy of "Thailand - Kitchen of the World".

TRC 2025 is expected to help Thailand secure more than 100,000 tons of orders, bringing in more than 2 billion baht. The full-year export target remains at 7.5 million tons. The president of the Thai Rice Exporters Association said the US tariffs were not a concern, but he was concerned that India's return to the market and rising global production could affect exports.
