In 2019, Nghe An recruited 84 athletes from 15 grassroots amateur talent classes.
(Baonghean.vn) - That was the information stated at the conference to summarize the system of amateur sports talent classes at the grassroots level in 2019 and deploy tasks for 2020 organized by the Department of Culture and Sports of Nghe An on the afternoon of January 13.
2019 is the fourth year that the system of amateur sports talent classes at the grassroots level has been reorganized by Nghe An after a period of interruption. However, through the system of amateur sports talent classes at the grassroots level and the satellite system, in 2019, Nghe An Sports Center selected 84 athletes for 19 sports of the province, not including football.
Accordingly, the total number of amateur sports talent classes at the Cultural and Sports Centers of districts, towns and cities will be increased; the number of athletes registered to study will be increased to 600 athletes who regularly practice (minimum 15 athletes/class).
Among 15 localities, Vinh city and Dien Chau are the two leading localities in providing athletes in 2019 with 14 athletes. Also in the past year, Nghe An Sports attracted 8 athletes from other provinces in traditional martial arts, Taekwondo, petanque, Vovinam, wrestling and sepak takraw.

Some athletes provided by gifted sports classes have shown their talent and development prospects early, such as athletes Hoang Thi Khanh Nhi, Do Thi Quyen, and Nguyen Thi Phuong, who won bronze medals at the youth championship.
Looking back at 2019, athletes of Nghe An Sports Training Center participated in 65 domestic and international competitions, winning 301 medals of all kinds (62 gold medals, 78 silver medals and 161 bronze medals). Including 1 gold medal and 1 silver medal at the 30th SEA Games. Notably, Vovinam won 1 world silver medal, Sepak Takraw won 2 world silver medals, 1 Asian bronze medal, Taekwondo won 1 Asian gold medal, 1 Southeast Asian bronze medal.
Of the 301 medals won, Chess won 48, Taekwondo won 38, Wrestling won 29 and Weightlifting won 28. The number of Gold medals at the national championship was quite limited with 16 gold medals and 13 gold medals at the national youth championship.
Entering 2020, Nghe An Sports Training and Coaching Center sets out a direction to expand and develop the system of grassroots sports talent classes in the province from 30 classes to 35 classes, striving to provide the province's sports teams with 80-120 athletes annually.

In addition, the task is to organize training courses to improve knowledge in searching, selecting and training talented athletes for coaches and instructors at the grassroots level in June 2020.
On the other hand, the Department of Culture and Sports will coordinate with the Department of Education and Training to develop school sports in conjunction with high-performance sports being practiced at the Center, especially sports included in the Phu Dong Sports Festival program.
At the conference, representatives of the grassroots amateur classes also contributed their opinions with very practical presentations. Among them were a number of initiatives such as insurance for athletes in case of injury, ensuring the quality of training and competition as well as speeding up procedures when deciding to select talented athletes.
