Nam Dan: Focus on directing the season and structure of winter crop varieties
(Baonghean) -Due to the conditions this year, the summer-autumn rice harvest is later than previous years, so this winter crop, the issue of timing and appropriate seed arrangement is very important. To keep up with the planting schedule, in Nam Dan, many communes sow as they harvest.
Along Highway 15A, people in Nam Tan and Nam Loc communes are urgently planting winter corn on high fields. Ms. Hoa in Hamlet 5 (Nam Tan) said: Usually after floods, the alluvial soil is fertile, so corn grows very well, giving high yields. This year, her family planted 3 sao of short-term corn varieties A333 and MX2. Currently, the corn is growing well, hopefully making up for the loss from the summer-autumn rice crop.
Regarding Nam Loc, Mr. Nguyen Canh Loc - Vice Chairman of the Commune People's Committee said: Experience shows that after October 10, the implementation will be less effective, so although it is still raining, the commune directs people to urgently harvest the remaining area, and deploy winter planting as soon as they are harvested. With 93 hectares of winter crops, from August, people registered for seeds and the commune prepared. Particularly for corn, this year the commune proactively arranged short-term sweet corn varieties (70-75 days) to ensure the crop schedule because the seed supplier lent people seeds and guaranteed product consumption. The commune also tested and introduced short-term potato varieties. This type of plant is not only suitable for low-lying sandy soil, suitable for the time budget, but also has high value and guaranteed product consumption, so although the variety is expensive (1 sao invests more than 1 million for seeds), people are very responsive.
People in Nam Tan (Nam Dan) take advantage of favorable weather to grow winter corn.
Head of the Nam Dan District Agriculture Department, Mr. Nguyen Huu Nhuan, said: In the 2011-2012 winter crop, Nam Dan continues to exploit all potentials for comprehensive winter crop development in terms of cultivation, livestock, aquaculture, fruit tree planting and forestry. Investing in intensive farming combined with increasing corn density in favorable areas (both on alluvial land and 2-rice land). With the motto of doing it early to meet market demand, the district advocates developing short-term vegetables, focusing on intensive investment and increasing the area of peanuts, hot peppers, and exported food corn. In addition, pest control, promoting livestock and poultry farming, intensive fish farming in the 3rd crop; proactive plans on techniques as well as seedlings to promptly overcome the consequences caused by storms and floods are also given great attention, ensuring success for winter crop production.
Due to the conditions this year, the summer-autumn rice harvest is about 20 days later than previous years, so localities prioritize the use of short-term corn varieties with a growing period of less than 105 days such as A333, MX2, MX4. In addition, depending on the time fund of each land area, other hybrid corn varieties such as medium-term group C919, CP999, NK6654... To increase winter corn yield by 30-40% compared to mass yield, on land areas with intensive farming conditions, no flooding in highland and copper areas, two varieties with the ability to be planted densely are B06, LVN14 combined with additional investment in fertilizer. For example, on highland and copper land in communes of Khanh Son, Nam Tan, Nam Loc, Nam Thuong, Van Dien, Xuan Hoa, Nam Xuan, Nam Anh..., medium-term corn varieties NVL14, Bio06, C919... are planted; Plan the sweet corn growing area from 80-100 ha. For the fields and flats currently growing summer-autumn green beans, it is necessary to re-examine. If the bean plants in any area are not effective, focus on directing farmers to plow away the bean plants to use as fertilizer and sow medium-day corn varieties. For the 2-rice land and low-lying areas (after the flood), arrange the main varieties A333, MX2, MX4.
Winter crop is identified as the main crop, contributing to improving land use efficiency, creating commodity products and especially creating an important food source to ensure food balance in the area. Therefore, Nam Dan makes the most of fertile land to grow vegetables, especially vegetables with high economic value. Depending on the type of soil and soil, suitable varieties such as green beans, cabbage, kohlrabi, tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, potatoes, and spices are arranged. Corn growing areas have the conditions to intercrop with lettuce, mustard greens, etc. Continue to expand the area of pumpkin and potatoes on copper-colored and beach-colored land with good drainage. Hot peppers for export are arranged on copper-colored land with proactive irrigation with an area of about 60-80ha.
In addition to the support of the province according to Decision 10/2011/QD.UBND of the Provincial People's Committee, the district supports 1 million VND/ha to buy sweet corn seeds, supports 1 million VND/ha to buy hot chili seeds for export, supports 1.5 million VND for production areas for hot chili for export from 5 hectares or more or from 10 hectares of high-density corn (from 60,000 plants/ha or more). In addition, the district also has a reward mechanism for communes that do well in the plan targets such as communes with corn areas of 50 hectares or more exceeding at least 20% are rewarded 5 million VND, communes with 5 hectares or more of hot chili for export, concentrated sweet corn of 10 hectares or more with effective production are rewarded 2 million VND...
