Slashing a person at a wedding, after being admitted to the hospital, Lien continued to stab a young man with a knife, taking his life.

On June 13, the Hanoi High Court opened an appeal hearing to consider the appeal for sentence reduction of Nguyen Van Lien (born in 1982, residing in Dai Thinh commune, Me Linh district, Hanoi).

Previously, at the end of December 2016, the court of first instance convicted Lien of two crimes: Murder and Intentional Infliction of Injury and sentenced him to life in prison.

Nguyen Van Lien's sentence was not reduced.

The first instance verdict stated that on the evening of October 3, 2015, upon receiving news that her nephew had been beaten at a wedding and had to be hospitalized, Lien immediately brought a knife to deal with the matter.

While searching for the person who beat her nephew, Lien got into a fight with Nguyen Van Tinh (born in 1992).

When Tinh threw a brick, Lien immediately got into a taxi and chased him with a knife. Lien used the back of the knife to slash the local youth repeatedly, sending him to the hospital with more than 7% health damage.

When everything was done, Lien went to the hospital to visit her nephew. When they got there, they saw people taking Tinh to the emergency room. Some people who were with Lien kicked over the stretcher the victim was lying on.

At that moment, another group of young men entered the hospital to visit Tinh, including Nguyen Van Khang (born in 1988). Seeing Tinh being kicked off the stretcher, Khang intervened. Seeing the risk of conflict, Lien's mother ran to stop him but was pushed down by Khang.

Seeing that, Lien immediately took a switchblade from her pocket and stabbed Khang in the chest, causing his death.

Continuing to testify at the appeal court, Lien said that she stabbed Mr. Khang because she could not control herself when she saw her mother being insulted and pushed down.

Although he honestly confessed his crime and showed remorse, the appellate court said that the defendant's actions were especially serious, disregarding the law and taking the life of another person.

Therefore, the appellate court held that there was no basis to consider the appeal and decided to uphold the first instance judgment sentencing the defendant Lien to life in prison for the two crimes of Murder and Intentional Infliction of Injury./.
