Improve pedestrian safety
(Baonghean.vn) -Implementing Plan No. 94/KH-UBATGTQG dated April 22, 2013 of the National Traffic Safety Committee, on May 4, the Provincial People's Committee issued Plan No. 192/KH-UBND-NC on organizing the second Road Safety Week in the province with the theme "Improving safety for pedestrians".
Accordingly, the second Road Safety Week in Nghe An will be held from May 6 to May 12, 2013 with the following contents: Dissemination of traffic rules for pedestrians; Regulations on giving way to pedestrians; Regulations on penalties for pedestrians violating traffic safety laws; Causes and consequences of traffic accidents for pedestrians.
Improve traffic infrastructure for pedestrians, including upgrading the road signaling system (traffic lights, signs, road markings) for pedestrians; Clear urban sidewalks and roadsides to facilitate pedestrians; Increase lighting for areas used by pedestrians; Enhance traffic safety in school areas.
Instruct pedestrians to cross the street at the right place and obey traffic light signals; Instruct motor vehicle drivers to voluntarily comply with legal regulations on giving way to pedestrians.
Administrative penalties for pedestrians and administrative penalties for motor vehicle drivers who do not comply with regulations on giving way to pedestrians.
Units participating in the implementation of the second Road Safety Week include: Standing Committee of the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee, Provincial Police, Department of Transport, Department of Education and Training, Subcommittee on Law Propaganda (Department of Justice), Department of Information and Communications, Radio and Television Stations and press agencies, People's Committees of districts, cities and towns and social organizations...
According to Mr. Nguyen Hong Ky - Director of the Department of Transport, Deputy Head of the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee, the second Road Safety Week with the theme "Improving pedestrian safety" aims to raise awareness and compliance with the law on traffic safety and order for pedestrians, and at the same time warn of the risks of traffic accidents for pedestrians; create conditions to ensure traffic infrastructure for absolute safety for pedestrians; organize and mobilize drivers of road motor vehicles to proactively give way to pedestrians in accordance with regulations. The requirement is that from May 6 to May 12, 2013, no pedestrians will die in traffic accidents; reduce traffic accidents for pedestrians in 2013.
