Delegates focused on questioning Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien on a number of contents and breakthrough solutions to overcome the deterioration of medical ethics of a number of cadres, civil servants and public employees in the health sector; the current situation of the health system at district and commune levels and investment in grassroots health care to reduce the burden on upper-level hospitals; state management of private health care, management of drug prices, food hygiene and safety, etc.

Responding to questions from delegates, Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tien said that in order to improve medical ethics in the health sector, the Ministry of Health has established more than 1,000 hotline numbers to promptly reflect questions and harassment issues of doctors and nurses, and to commend shining examples of medical ethics as well as cases that cause trouble for patients.

In just over 2 months of operation, the Ministry of Health's hotline has received more than 900 calls reflecting on the attitudes, harassment, and lack of responsibility of doctors and nurses... Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tien affirmed that the attitudes of doctors and nurses are a "hot spot" that causes frustration for patients.

Therefore, the top solution to regain trust in the health sector is to change attitudes and professional ethics. The Ministry of Health has issued Circular 07 to "legalize medical ethics", helping hospital leaders have more tools to strictly handle disciplinary violations. Thereby, the Ministry has directly inspected, classified, disciplined and promptly rewarded, with initial positive results.

The solution to overcome the shortage of doctors and pharmacists is gradually being improved by doubling the number of medical university students every year.

Concluding the question-and-answer session, Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Tong Thi Phong highly appreciated the content of the answer of Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tien, which closely followed the content of the questions, answered frankly, focused on clarifying the issues of concern to voters, and at the same time proposed solutions to overcome them. The Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly suggested that the Minister should promote the achieved results, overcome shortcomings and limitations, focus on directing the urgent issues of the industry at present, and find optimal solutions to promptly overcome the hot issues that voters are concerned about...
