Increase the value of agricultural production
(Baonghean) - Identifying agriculture and rural areas as the foundation and important driving force for socio-economic development, the Party Committee and government of Hung Nguyen district have implemented many solutions to promote the shift of agricultural structure towards commodity production. This is the direction that creates momentum for the district's economy to make steady progress.
Mr. Hoang Duc An, Acting Head of the District Agriculture Department, led us to visit large model fields in Hung Tay commune and proudly introduced: "For many years, Hung Tay has been considered the rice granary of the district. Rice is truly the main crop that helps people improve their lives." For the past 5 years, commercial rice has helped Hung Tay people get rich. On agricultural product stalls in traditional markets or large and small supermarkets, people often see the AC5 Hung Tay rice brand prominently displayed next to Thai rice, Northern rice... Currently, the commune has 800 hectares of rice land, of which 85% is commercial rice with an annual output of over 5,600 tons.

At the same time, the communes of Hung Tan, Hung Thang, Hung Xa, and Hung Long all have contiguous fields with bumper crops. Hung Thang commune produces commercial rice on large-scale fields with an area of 80ha/254ha, accounting for 60% of the two-rice land area. Mr. Phan Van Hien, Head of the Agricultural Committee of Hung Thang commune, said: "Implementing the specialized resolution on prioritizing the development of commercial rice, we have tested and selected pure short-term varieties with high yields. In addition, the commune has coordinated with Vinh Hoa Company to purchase products for people, creating sustainable output, so that people can confidently stick with rice." Up to now, rice in Hung Nguyen accounts for over 60% of the total agricultural production value of the district. And in the future, rice will still be the main crop. Therefore, in addition to actively converting high-quality rice varieties, the district encourages people to put into production pure short-term rice varieties with high yield such as AC5, Nang Xuan, Bac Thom No. 7, DT 52... with the aim of creating maximum value per unit area. In 2014, the average rice yield of the whole district reached nearly 65.74 quintals/plan 62 quintals/ha, equal to 106% of the plan, this is also the highest output ever. Currently, the whole district has over 40 high-income, efficient production fields. From the results of model field production, localities have expanded the area of high-quality rice on a large scale. Every year, the whole district has 1,700 - 2,000 hectares of high-quality rice, bringing the output of commercial rice to exceed the congress target.
For many years now, winter-spring vegetables have been considered the agricultural strength of Hung Nguyen district with 90% of corn area; 50% of bean area planted with new varieties and many areas of vegetables, hot peppers, watermelons, and squash. In particular, the district has successfully implemented the carrot growing model according to the crop restructuring program on the alluvial land along the Lam River in Hung Khanh commune in the spring crop of 2014 with a total area of 6 hectares. The model, supported by Asia Company in terms of varieties, techniques and product consumption, is being actively intensively cultivated on a large scale by people in the alluvial communes of Hung Xa, Hung Long, etc.
At the same time, the conversion of livestock and the development of family farms are considered remarkable breakthroughs of the Party Committee, government and people of Hung Nguyen. Localities such as Hung Long, Hung Tan, Hung Khanh have made a strong breakthrough in the development of large-scale livestock farming. In 2014, the district had a herd of 6,725 buffaloes; 15,383 cows; 22,542 pigs; and 803,000 poultry. Although the herd growth rate is not large, the output of fresh meat for sale has increased steadily over the years from 15-20%, thanks to the application of new scientific advances in animal husbandry, leading to a faster turnover. The trend of animal husbandry is gradually shifting to family farms and farms with increasingly large scale. Some farms combining crop cultivation with raising Sind crossbred cattle have been formed on the alluvial land along the Lam River, creating exemplary models.
Currently, the whole district has over 400 farms and mixed-use businesses (21 farms meet the criteria prescribed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) operating quite stably, including farms and farms growing vegetables, crops and livestock combined with an average income of over 500 million VND/ha in the communes: Hung Yen Bac, Hung Yen Nam, Hung Nhan, Hung Phuc, Hung Thinh, Hung Long, Hung Phu, Hung Khanh. A typical example is the eel farm of Mr. Bui Van Hieu - Hamlet 2 - Hung Khanh commune with a yield of 4 quintals/m2, using the technique he learned in An Giang, after 4 months of raising, he has now sold the first batch at a price of 200,000 VND/kg. In the near future, he will expand the model on 2 hectares of surface water to increase productivity per unit area. This is a model that is being directed by the commune Party Committee to be replicated to create a specialty eel area in Nghe An, improving the lives and income of the people. Talking about the high-income family farm model, we must also mention the billion-dollar super-laying chicken and duck farms of Mr. Tran Minh Duong in Hamlet 4 - Hung Dao; or the biotechnology chicken farming model of Mr. Nguyen Huy Tien in Hamlet 5, Hung Tien Commune, after 9 years of implementation, the total herd of his farm is currently more than 13,000. The average annual income of the farm is over 3 billion VND.
Thanks to the efforts of local authorities at all levels and the efforts of farmers to take shortcuts to stay in the fields, determined to get rich on their homeland. Up to now, the average growth in agricultural production value from 2010 to 2015 is 3.41%, 1.11 times higher than the previous term. The application of science - technology and mechanization has been paid attention to, many policies and mechanisms have been effectively promoted, contributing to promoting the restructuring of crops and livestock to increase the value of agricultural production.
