Raising awareness among fishermen about protecting aquatic resources

(Baonghean.vn) - On September 10, in Quynh Long commune (Quynh Luu), the Department of Exploitation and Protection of Aquatic Resources and the Coastal Resources Project Management Board for Sustainable Development of Nghe An province, in coordination with the People's Committee of Quynh Long commune, organized the Conference "Raising awareness for fishermen on the protection and sustainable development of coastal aquatic resources".

The Fisheries Co-Management model has helped fishermen feel secure in staying at sea and exploiting effectively.

At the conference, fishermen and leaders of commune and village authorities were informed about the security situation at sea, flood and storm prevention, collective economic policies, and support policies for fishermen; At the conference, delegates shared the effectiveness of the "Co-management of fisheries" model. Through the conference, fishermen were raised to understand the importance and value of marine resources, and to identify the role and responsibility of the community in protecting aquatic resources.

Up to now, 15 cooperative groups have been established in Quynh Long commune, with 1,340 members and 175 vessels. In the coming time, Quynh Long commune People's Committee will coordinate with the Management Board of the coastal resources project for the sustainability of the province to support cooperative groups in developing economic cooperation plans between fishing vessels in the group, guide and disseminate the model of organizing seafood exploitation associated with logistics services, regularly help each other develop the economy in exploitation activities and exchange about occupations as well as fishing grounds.
