Widespread heat, electricity consumption in Nghe An increases sharply
(Baonghean.vn) - In recent days, temperatures in the Northern and North Central provinces have been continuously rising. In many places in Nghe An, temperatures have reached over 40 degrees Celsius and are expected to continue to be hot in the coming days. The intense heat has caused electricity consumption to increase.
Electricity consumption increased sharply
Mr. Nguyen Van Binh - Head of Dispatch Department, Nghe An Electricity Company, yesterday, June 20,electricity consumptionis 14,900 million KWh, peak capacity reaches 773MW, up 10% compared to the peak day of June 2020.
While in recent days, Tan Thang Cement Factory has temporarily stopped operations for maintenance, resulting in a 20MW decrease in peak capacity. In addition, some localities are implementing isolation according to Directive 16 to prevent and fight the Covid epidemic, and shops and services have closed, leading to a decrease in electricity supply for commercial services. However, this data shows that electricity output for consumption has increased sharply.
"Electricity consumption has increased and one of the main reasons is the prolonged, widespread hot weather," Mr. Binh emphasized.

Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the implementation of social distancing according to Directive 16, electricity consumption growth is lower than expected, including electricity for industry - construction and electricity for commercial services - the two load components most affected since the COVID-19 pandemic occurred.
Previously, the province's electricity consumption on June 3 continued to set a new record with a figure of up to 16,200 million kWh, peak capacity of 820Mw, an increase of nearly 12% over the same period in 2020 in both peak capacity and consumption output.
Need solutions to save electricity
Nghe An Electricity Company said that the prolonged hot weather has caused the equipment on the power grid to continuously operate at full load, even overloading at some times, leading to the risk of local incidents on the power grid. In this situation, the Electricity industry has worked with cement factories and industrial customers who use a lot of electricity to have a reasonable usage plan, avoiding peak hours.

EVN recommends that people, agencies, offices and production sites pay attention to using electricity safely and economically, especially during peak hours at noon and in the evening, specifically at noon from 11:30 to 15:00, in the evening from 20:00 to 23:00. At the same time, pay attention to using air conditioning reasonably (set at 27 degrees or higher, use in combination with fans) and should not use many high-capacity electrical devices at the same time to minimize the risk of electrical fires and explosions.
In the context of the complicated COVID-19 epidemic and widespread severe heat, the Department of Industry and Trade and Nghe An Electricity are focusing on directing affiliated units to deploy plans to ensure safe, continuous and stable power supply to serve people's lives, production and activities as well as epidemic prevention and control requirements.
Mr. Mai Anh Tuan - Deputy Director of Nghe An Energy Conservation Center said: Currently, the Energy Conservation Center - Department of Industry and Trade is focusing on implementing projects under the program of economical and efficient energy use in 2021 such as: Organizing launching ceremonies, training and energy conservation competitions in schools in Nghe An province; Reporting to the Provincial People's Committee for approval of the project on installing rooftop solar power in public offices. At the same time, continue to implement the "Sub-project on supplying rural electricity from renewable energy to villages and hamlets without electricity in the province".
Currently, the northern and central provinces are experiencing very harsh weather conditions with temperatures in many places exceeding 40 degrees Celsius and the heat wave will continue in the coming days. The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that the Son La, Hoa Binh, midlands and the Northern Delta, and the area from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien Hue will experience severe heat, with some places experiencing particularly severe heat. The highest temperatures in these areas are generally 37-40 degrees Celsius, with some places exceeding 40 degrees Celsius.
