The Devil's Creek

(Baonghean) -In the Cam village area, Cam Muon commune (Que Phong - Nghe An), people are racing to dig and carve the Quya stream.

The method of the "gold thieves" is to use water pumps with Dong Phong engines to insert "water hoses" into cliffs and fields, creating deep holes (photo 1). During the gold panning process, they also use chemicals to discharge into streams (photo 2). Below the Devil's stream, women and children are soaking in water contaminated with extremely toxic chemicals to pan for gold (photo 3). Due to massive and excessive exploitation, many streams in Cam Muon commune are seriously polluted. The altered flow caused landslides and loss of arable land. Children were also given "tools" to dig and pan for gold in the Devil's Stream (photo 4).
