There should be an oath for teachers before teaching.
According to Professor Vu Tuan, teachers' oath not to assault students, to love children as if they were their own children... will prevent them from doing evil.
Conflicts between parents and teachers, teachers and students in consecutive incidents that occurred last March have made many people worried.
Prof. Dr. Vu Tuan - former principal of Hanoi National University of Education (1988 - 1992), Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hong Ha High School (Hanoi) - said that the above incidents are the consequences of society looking down on the teaching profession.

Ministry of Education and Training is irresponsible
- After 60 years working in the education sector, when you read information about conflicts between parents - teachers, teachers - students, how do you feel?
- I am very sad to see many stories of teachers being assaulted and forced to kneel by parents, kindergarten teachers slapping or beating students. This is completely unacceptable.
I went to school during the French colonial period (before 1945), when the tradition of respecting teachers was always maintained. At that time, it was normal for students to be forced to kneel or slapped. No matter what, parents never reacted by storming into the school and beating the teacher.
I say it's normal not to justify why teachers abusing students is right, but it's normal in the social context at that time.
For me, in any society or circumstance, teachers using measures that negatively affect students' psychology or body should be strictly prohibited.
In my 60 years as a teacher, I have never used violence against a student. Some of my students are over 80 years old, and they still come to visit me every year.
The actions of parents forcing teachers to kneel or beat them represent the "law of the jungle", and it is only used when the official law is weak.

Parents who beat kindergarten teacher and hospitalized in Nghe An are being prosecuted for humiliating others.
(Baonghean.vn) - The Vinh City Police Department has prosecuted Ms. Nghia for the crime of Humiliating others. This woman was released on bail to serve the investigation.
- According to you, what regulations should the law and the Education Law add to protect teachers?
- The law should have specific regulations on protecting the physical safety and honor of teachers.
After three recent incidents of conflict with teachers, the Ministry of Education and Training had to send inspectors to each region to investigate. Only when we handle the situation thoroughly will we not have repeat offenses.
Currently, the Ministry of Education and Training has only stopped at sending official dispatches requesting local authorities to handle and report. This action is not strong enough and somewhat irresponsible.
- As the former principal of Hanoi Pedagogical University, with experience in management, what is your opinion on the need for schools to protect teachers?
- Regarding the case in Long An, we need to understand that the motives of the teacher forcing the students to kneel and the parents forcing the teacher to kneel are different. If the teacher considers forcing the students to kneel as education - even though this method is wrong - then the parents should report it to the principal. The teacher will be disciplined according to school regulations. The teacher forcing the teacher to kneel is revenge.
I propose that the principal of the school where the incident took place should be removed from the education sector, because the school is an administrative unit, not just anyone can come in and out, to assault teachers like that.
The teacher was even made to kneel for 40 minutes without the principal knowing. This person is completely unworthy of being the head of the school.
In addition, we need to give feedback to the parent representatives who witnessed the incident and did not fulfill their role.
The story in Long An also did not feature security guards - the people who carry out school safety duties. They let strangers walk around freely in the school and insult teachers.

Prosecution of suspect who detonated a mine and set fire to a female teacher's house on the morning of the second day of Tet
Ha Tinh Provincial Police have just issued a decision to prosecute and temporarily detain a suspect who detonated a mine at a female teacher's house in Ha Tinh City on the morning of the second day of Tet.
- The starting point of the conflict between parents and teachers is the teacher's problematic teaching skills when punishing students by kneeling or beating them. Is it true that the education in teacher training colleges focuses too much on knowledge and lacks the subject of teacher ethics?
- Ethics and skills for students majoring in education are taught in the subjects of Teaching Methods and Psychology. However, to let the sad stories above happen, we need to review the entrance into the education industry.
I am very surprised that teacher training colleges now do not interview or test candidates to see if they have talent and passion for children. Candidates with speech impediments should be eliminated immediately, and those with poor teaching skills should also be reconsidered.
In addition, I propose that before graduating, pedagogical students must take an oath before practicing their profession, just as those in the medical profession must recite the Hippocratic oath at their graduation ceremony.
The teaching profession also requires oaths when becoming a teacher. In addition to always reminding oneself, oaths also have spiritual value, preventing people from doing evil, for example: Absolutely do not assault students, must love children as if they were your own children...
Low input, many students do not have jobs after graduation. One of my students after graduating from Hanoi Pedagogical University said that he could not find a job, wanted to become a permanent employee but had to pay money, his family did not have enough money to teach so he had to take the entrance exam to National Economics University to do other jobs.
Even if there are jobs, teachers' salaries are low, especially for preschool teachers. Many preschools have been opened illegally for a long time without any management. Children are not properly looked after and educated, leading to a series of abuse cases in recent times.
If the education sector does not pay enough attention to teachers, they cannot work wholeheartedly with wages that are not enough to live on. Without solving the problem of treatment and salary for teachers, education cannot make significant progress.
