The beauty of celebrating longevity in early spring

(Baonghean) -Every year at the beginning of the new year, all localities in Quynh Luu district have a movement to organize longevity celebrations for the elderly. Along with the tree planting festival, organizing longevity celebrations is considered a beautiful feature of the new year that needs to be preserved, maintained and promoted.

In the first days of spring, the atmosphere of welcoming the new year of Quy Ty 2013 is still everywhere. Along with the bustling and exciting atmosphere are the sounds of gongs and drums cheering for the longevity celebration in early spring. It has become a tradition that from the 6th to the 10th of January every year, 43/43 communes and towns in Quynh Luu district organize longevity celebrations for the elderly. This year, the longevity celebration is not only held at the cultural house of the hamlet but also on a large scale at the halls of the communes and towns.

Along with the congratulatory gifts from the province and district, localities have also allocated budgets to buy gifts for the elderly. Thanks to that attention, the elderly association movement in recent years has achieved remarkable results. The number of elderly people achieving the title of "Old age, bright example" accounts for over 70%, and cultural families account for nearly 80%. Unable to hide his happiness when attending the longevity celebration, Mr. Le Van Gia - a member of the Elderly Association of Quynh Hau commune shared: "This year I am 70 years old, I am very excited to be able to celebrate my longevity. I am very grateful to the elderly association and the agencies for creating conditions to congratulate the elderly on their birthday. This is a very meaningful work and encourages the elderly to live healthy, happy, useful lives and set an example for their children and grandchildren to follow."

Quynh Luu district currently has more than 35,000 members of the Elderly Association, including over 4,300 people aged 70 and over. In the year of Quy Ty, the whole district had 38 people aged 101 and over, especially Kieu Thi Nho in Cau Giat town who was 113 years old, 33 people who turned 100 received silk shirts from the President. On this occasion, in addition to the province's budget of over 830 million VND, the district allocated 17.5 million VND to give gifts to the people who turned 100. The spring longevity celebration is considered a beautiful tradition, demonstrating the cultural identity of the nation, thereby educating the younger generation about how to treat others, the filial piety of children and grandchildren towards grandparents and parents, while encouraging the elderly to continue to strive to live happily and healthily, being exemplary models for their children and grandchildren.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Nham - Head of the Representative Board of the Elderly Association of Quynh Luu District said: "Every year, on the occasion of Tet, the association organizes longevity celebrations for the elderly. 100% of the elderly participate in the longevity celebration. Through the longevity celebration, a movement and a vibrant atmosphere have been created in the community, creating a great festival. Through the longevity celebration, the socialization of the elderly work has been enhanced so that the elderly can live happily and healthily."

On the occasion of Tet, children working far away from home after a year of hard work can return to gather with their grandparents and parents. This is an opportunity to show their filial piety in the fullest and most complete way. Therefore, organizing a longevity celebration for the elderly is one of the beautiful features of the New Year.
