Neymar and teammates were 'neutralized'

October 6, 2017 08:11

Neymar and his teammates could only draw 0-0 on Bolivia's field in the penultimate match of the World Cup qualifiers.

Brazil fielded their strongest possible lineup, with Neymar, Gabriel Jesus and Coutinho up front, but were unable to score against Bolivia. Neymar and Jesus both missed two chances against goalkeeper Carlos Lampe.

Bolivia only created a few problems in front of Brazil's goal in the opening minutes. In the rest of the match, the home team had to retreat continuously and thanks to "luck" they were able to keep a clean sheet.

The 0-0 draw with Bolivia was the first time Brazil failed to score in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers after 15 consecutive matches. The other goalless match for Neymar and his teammates was the opening match, when they lost 0-2 to Chile.

On October 10, in the final round, Brazil will host Chile. This is an opportunity for the yellow-green team to get revenge and regain their scoring touch.

The draw with Bolivia did not affect Brazil's position in the qualifying round. With a 10-point lead over second-placed Uruguay, coach Tite's team has already secured a ticket to the World Cup and is leading the South American region. Coach Tite only sees the final matches as a good opportunity to train his team.

Meanwhile, an extra point could not help Bolivia improve their performance. Coach Mauricio Soria's team is still second to last in the 10 teams with 14 points, after losing hope of winning a ticket in many previous rounds.
