Russia's National Anti-Terrorism Committee (NAC) on April 5 denied rumors that more terrorist attacks were being planned in several Russian cities.

Unconfirmed reports citing anonymous security sources were posted on Russian media and social networking sites after the April 3 explosion in St. Petersburg that killed 14 people and injured dozens.

“The NAC Information Center points out that truthful and accurate information on this issue on behalf of security agencies can only be obtained from official sources issued by the Public Relations Center of the Federal Security Service (FSB) and the Information Center of the National Anti-Terrorist Committee of Russia,” the committee said in a statement.

The agency added that spreading false or unverified information from anonymous sources about alleged imminent terrorist attacks is a punishable offense in Russia.
