Russia opposes any resolution calling for the use of force against Syria.

In an interview with the Itar-Tass news agency on August 30, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov declared that Moscow opposes any UN Security Council resolution that calls for the use of force against Syria.

"Russia opposes any UN Security Council resolution that includes provisions for the use of force," said Gennady Gatilov.

According to Gatilov's earlier statement, "at this stage it is necessary to take all necessary actions to prevent the situation from developing negatively or to prevent acts of violence against Syria," the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister told Itar-Tass.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon announced that he will meet with diplomats from the permanent members of the UN Security Council, including Russia, China, the United Kingdom, the United States, and France, on August 30 to discuss the situation in Syria.

This will be the second meeting in recent days of the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council.

According to Itar-Tass, the most recent meeting took place on August 29th at the initiative of Russia. However, the meeting ended without any results, as Russia and China opposed the draft resolution prepared by the UK that would pave the way for a military operation in Syria, while the US and France supported it.

The meeting reached a deadlock when Russian diplomats walked out.

After consulting with member states of the United Nations Security Council, the UK announced its refusal to participate in a possible military operation in Syria. Meanwhile, Washington stated that it would make its own decision based on US interests.

Meanwhile, there were suggestions within the United Nations that the White House would launch an attack on Syria without the approval of the UN Security Council.
