Russia builds anti-stealth fence waiting for F-35

According to Defensenews, on April 25, the US Air Force announced that it would deploy a squadron of F-35 fighters to Estonia - a place very close to Russia.

The US will deploy F-35s to the Amari Air Base in Estonia, which is very close to Russia, the source said. These F-35s will stay in this Eastern European country for "several weeks" to conduct training flights with NATO allies.

However, a representative of the US Air Force refused to confirm this information and emphasized that any information about the deployment of F-35 fighter jets would only be announced after the aircraft arrived at the assembly point.

Although the US has been vague about the possibility of deploying the F-35, this information does not surprise Russia and Moscow has found a way to deal with America's top-of-the-line fighter jet.

According to Svobodnaya Pressa, Russia has begun equipping the Podsolnukh radar on its western flank and the entire Crimean peninsula. Citing the Russian Ministry of Defense, the newspaper said that the Podsolnukh radar system is a product of the NIIDAR Design Complex in Moscow.

In the coming time, the Russian Defense Ministry will complete the plan to deploy Podsolnukh systems in the Arctic, Southeast and West of the country. Currently, Russia has deployed 3 Podsolnukh systems in the Far East and Caspian Sea.

The Podsolnukh radar provides wide-area surveillance of air and sea targets up to 500 km, the source said. The Podsolnukh surveillance range depends on the target's operating altitude (the radar's scanning range is affected by the curvature of the Earth).

According to Global Security, the Podsolnukh radar is capable of detecting and monitoring up to 300 sea targets and 100 air targets at the same time. Modern technology applied to Podsolnukh allows detecting targets in all time and weather conditions.

In particular, with short-wave frequency, this radar can "unmask" targets equipped with stealth technology, making them appear clearly on the display screen like aircraft from World War II," Russian newspaper Svobodnaya Pressa posted when evaluating the ability of the Podsolnukh radar to deal with stealth targets such as the F-35 aircraft.

Thanks to its high level of automation, the Podsolnukh radar crew requires only three people, consumes low power and is easy to maintain. Each radar station of this type needs to be spaced 370 km apart to achieve optimal surveillance capabilities.

Over-the-horizon surveillance and warning radar systems are playing an increasingly important role for countries around the world with long coastlines to deal with various threats, according to Svobodnaya Pressa.
